We have multiple active basic science laboratories currently participating in advance research in lung transplantation, cell/tissue engineering, and stem cell research.

This work includes NIH funded research in the lab of Dr. Kalpaj Parekh and takes advantage of our experience in lung transplantation and advanced surgical skills/techniques.

Dr. Anthony Swatek has also recently started a laboratory that compliments the work of the Parekh Lab and takes advantage of the resources and models developed there.

Other basic science projects

  • Development of an animal model for chronic rejection and cystic fibrosis in lung transplantation
  • Role of epithelial stem cells in lung transplantation (K08 awarded by NIH)
